Hi Everyone,

Here’s a little something for you to read… take your time… read it slowly… linger on the words for a while..

As you find yourself reading this page… your eyes soft dancing from word to word… you can begin to notice the rate of your breathing slowing… and the intonation of your heart rate calming … I wonder how long it will be before your inquisitive imagination has taken over? now I don’t know if you’ll use the warm creative side of your mind or the side that likes to just let go and have fun? whichever you decide, you know which is best… just allow this process to continue all by itself… deep down inside…

Just allow that part of your mind to drift… letting go… of any unnecessary nervous tension… breathing in… comfort and ease… deep relaxation… there’s only one thing for you to remain focused on… and that’s the words on this page… every part of you, every bone, muslce, nerve and every fibre relaxing and letting go …. now somewhere inside of you… you can imagine a warm relaxing place, perhaps a colour comes to mind… turn that colour up and make it brighter … start to notice how that colour expands naturally throughout your body… growing pulsing warming your body… with each and every breath… immerse yourself in that picture as if you are there now… hearing all those good sounds, turning the volume up… seeing all those amazing sites, bright and beautiful… feeling oh so good, relaxed and comfortable… those feelings growing… flowing throughout your body now…

Now the more you relax… while you read this email… the better you feel… and the better you feel… the more you relax… over and over again… in your mind this process continues all by itself… can you imagine what it would be like if those two parts of your mind could come together… and generate maybe ten, one hundred or even thousands of new ways of behaving that will be more useful to you in these and other situations? imagine them coming together now in your mind… meeting, greeting, getting to know each other intimately… age old friends starting a new campaign to give you new options in life… new healthy choices, new and better ways of thinking, new positive ways of feeling …

And every time your heartbeats… or every time you breathe… or every time your eyelids blink… just allow your mind to imagine… that they have created a new option for you… that they have created a new way of being… and they will continue to create new choices… and new options continually until you’re living and leading a happy creative fun new life

Relaxed, feeling great, feeling more positive than you have felt in a long long time, wake yourself, go grab some water and allow your mind to linger on that warm relaxing place

After a disaster breakup a year ago, I started having hypnotherapy sessions with Aladdin. He helped me deal with the emotional trauma, and through visualisation techniques I was able to begin creating the path to a new future. Aladdin’s sessions also helped me focus on controlling my emotions, allowing me to think more rationally about issues in a calm manner.

A year later and thanks to hypnotherapy, my life is rich with new possibilities and enjoying the feeling of being happy. Thanks Aladdin!

Are you drinking enough water?

By Aladdin Elston

Your body is on average 60 percent water, all the bodies systems depend on water. Water flushes toxins, carries nutrients to cells and provides moisture throughout the body. Increase your vitality and productivity by following the rough guidelines below to ensure you are drinking enough water.

Are you drinking the right amount of water for you age, weight, sex, lifestyle and health?

A great rule of thumb to maintain hydration is as follows, drink about 1.2 liters of fluid every day to stop dehydration. This works out to be about six 200ml or eight 150ml glasses per day.

Gym – If you’re going to the gym drink an additional 500ml to a litre during prolonged or intense exercise. It can help you to feel more energetic and replaces all the liquids your body loses through sweat

Digestive System – Drinking water helps in digestive system, it raises your metabolism. It flushes out toxins and cleanses the insides of your body

Brain – Drinking water aids the brain with concentration, concentration is maintained when you stay hydrated, so drink water regularly throughout the day

Dieting – Drinking water reduces hunger, this is known as the Hunger Thirst Response

Skin – Water keeps our skin healthy; skin is comprised of 90% water. Without drinking enough amount of water skin becomes dry and unhealthy

Relaxation – Water primarily stimulates blood circulation and additional elements of our body. Drinking water makes our body more relaxed

To make water more refreshing and palatable, add a squeeze of lime or lemon (as seen in out Detox Now article). The lemon or lime will also boost your immune system with the added vitamin C and increase the cleansing action of the water. Fill a water bottle to take with you to work, have it on your desk, take sips throughout the day, this will keep your mind fresh and give you a relaxing break away from the screen when you need to refill. Before long you’ll notice the benefits of drinking water regularly, your texture of your skin will improve, the colour in your eyes will be clear and radiant and overall your concentration levels will be higher. Start today and build yourself up to drinking a suitable amount of water everyday.

EFT a symptom management system, It has been described as an acupressure without needles. The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body’s energy system. EFT treatment involves tapping areas of the body with our fingertips to stimulate certain meridian points while the client is focussed on the issue.

The tapping stimulates the issue area and helps the bodies energy system to function properly. It is simple and easy to learn, whether the client refers to the past, the present or the future.

It can be used on a range of conditions including Weight Management, pain control, phobias/panic/anxiety, depression, stress, trauma and guilt, addictive behaviours, Impulse control, PTSD and performance enhancement. It is particularly effective with negative memories.

EFT was developed in the 1990′s by Gary Craig, began with Dr. George Goodheart, John Diamond, M.D. and later Dr. Roger Callahan. Gary Craig, unveiled the meridian tapping techniques which he called Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

The tapping serves to release the blockages that are created when a person thinks about or becomes involved in an emotionally disturbing circumstance. When this blockage is released, the emotions return to balance. The memory remains and the negative emotion is released. The long lasting result often improves a person’s awareness positively.

Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT is an energy therapy that can dramatically relieve emotional disturbances along with many physical symptoms. works in minutes! It has proven itself successful in many scientific studies. It works on a variety of health issues, psychological issues, and performance issues, even those that have been resistant to other methods.

Most negative emotions or energy imbalances may be partially or completely be relieved within a short time using EFT. Others may be relieved through repetition of the process.
Examples of energy patterns that have been successfully cleared using EFT:

* Weight Management
* Social Phobias like Public Speaking
* Dealing with Depression & Phobias
* Recovery from Trauma and Grief
* Concentration and Focus on Success
* Impulse Control (Smoking, Weight Management)
* Overcoming Sexual issues
* Your phobia!

10 Steps to a Great Nights Sleep

By Aladdin Elston

Here are the top 10 steps to ensuring you have a great nights sleep:

Notepad, relax, alarm, read, exercise, sanctuary, bath, before sleep, eating and patterns

1. Notepad – Keep a notepad by your bedside and write down all the important things that are on your mind, this will allow you to let go of those thoughts comfortable knowing that you’ll be able to read through and continue with them the following day. Clear your mind now and focus on thoughts and thoughts of soft comfort, calm relaxation and deep sleep. I have found that repeating the words (Deep, Relaxed, Sleep) in a slow relaxed voice, slowing down and repeating the words deeper before drifting off into a deep sleep very helpful. Experiment, have fun and notice the changes for yourself

2. Relax – Slow your heart rate, slow your breathing and position your body into a comfortable state, concentrate on slowing your heart rate, now with each slower in breath and with each slower out breath you can just allow yourself to notice your heart rate slowing down comfortably. The more you relax the better you feel, the better you feel the more you relax and drift off into a comfortable nights sleep

3. Alarm – Set your alarm and turn the face away from you to prevent you watching the hours go by. Mobile phones should be turned to silent or vibrate to prevent them interfering with your sleep. Download an android or iPhone app to assist or monitor your sleeping patters

4. Read – Spend 30 minutes to an hour reading something relaxing, preferably fiction to help your mind unwind

5. Exercise – Exercise regularly, at least once a day, this should form part of a healthy lifestyle routine and always drink enough water to ensure your body is hydrated!

6. Sanctuary – Your bedroom should be a relaxing sanctuary, a place where you can find balance and rejuvenate your body back to it’s healthy natural self. Play some relaxing music, scented candles and incense can set the mood for a great nights sleep and a glass of water in case you get thirsty during the night

7. Bath – A bath or shower before bedtime stimulates oxygen and blood flow throughout the body, relaxing the muscles and mind helping your unwind and relaxing before climbing into bed

8. Before Sleep - Ensure you have a healthy rounded diet and have your last meal of the day at least 2 hours before bed time. This will mean your food is digested and your body is nourished and relaxed

9. Eating – Eat well throughout the day, 5 meal portions that include low glycemic index foods to ensure slow burning energy will promote a healthy nights sleep

10. Patterns – Establish regular deep sleep patterns, sleep at least 8 hours every night, science research show that brain function reduces with lack of sleep and hydration so keep and maintain a regular sleeping pattern and ensure you’re always drinking enough water.

BUILDING YOUR BEST PHYSIQUE EVER

By Dave Socorro

When it comes down to physique (roughly translated as physical attractiveness), there are many different approaches you can take. One of the best approaches is using your own bodyweight, that way you can train anywhere, anytime. I’ll offer a couple of exercise progressions that you can easily adapt to make them easier or harder depending on where you’re at. Also, I’ll include some techniques that I’ve learned through studying Hypnosis.

First things, it’s better to go for compound movements over isolation, so for example, instead of bicep curls using dumbbells, you’re better using an overhead bar to crank out some chinups. That way, you’re using your whole body as one unit and there’s the integration of training your muscles to work together in synergy.

Always focus on quality over quantity. Develop your “Absolute Strength” first, which is the foundation of every other fitness attribute. When you have a solid baseline of “Max-Strength” or “Absolute Strength” (your 1-rep max), from there, you can develop explosiveness, starting-strength (or Agility), Strength-Endurance etc etc.

A good starting point would be these, for low reps (Max-Strength) first, and work up to high reps (Strength-Endurance) later on, and then advance to a harder exercise of the same movement.

Pike Handstand Pushups

Jackknife Pullups

Full Squats

Knee Pushups

Tuck Rows

Alternating Lunges

Active Knee Raise

Glute Raise

To illustrate a point from my studies of Hypnosis, when it comes down to Imagination vs. Will, your imagination will always win hands down. There’s a saying that, “whether you believe you can do something or you can’t, either way, you’re right.” Walking on a plank of wood that is on the ground is easy, yeah? If you put that same plank of wood between two buildings 10 storeys off the ground, suddenly your fight-flight response kicks in. You have the will-power to do it, you want to it and yet maybe you feel that you can’t because your imagination takes over.

It’s the same with your physical training towards developing your best physique. You can leverage your imagination to your advantage. When you’re approaching your limit and you want so badly to advanced to the next exercise, say you needed 2 sets of 20 reps on Pike HSPU’s before you can advance to Wall Handstand, and you’re coming up to 15 reps, let your BURNING DESIRE fuel you. It all comes down to DESIRE over just will-power on its own. DESIRE + FAITH + CONFIDENCE can drive you through any barriers or limitations, and you can exceed your old personal bests.

With patience and relentless persistence and slowly evolving your art every single practise, in 6 months or 12 months time, you can work your way up to some of the skillsets that the toughest athletes in the world do. Prison inmates from all different disciplines- circus performers, gymnasts, martial artists, soldiers, etc etc- skills such as the one-arm handstand pushup, the one-arm pullup, the one-legged squat, the one-arm pushup, the one-arm row, the hanging leg raise, stand-to-stand bridge etc. I’m talking about strict form, legitimate movements, using your own body in ways that make you into a human weapon and the physical prowess of a warrior.

Detox Now?

Reducing the toxic qualities contained in the body by means of a short term diet, detoxification is an on-going process in the body. Toxins reduce our ability to experience, live, work and play to our full potential and if left unchecked can hamper health. The following blog will discuss detox, suggest detox methods and share some detox experiences with you. This is not medical advice and in all cases you should consult a physician, doctor or dietitian before embarking on a detox. People with certain health conditions (anemia, diabetes, kidney disease, pregnancy, nursing women to name a few) should not detox unless monitored and have express permission from a doctor and dietitian. Detox assists with self-healing, raises energy, stimulates digestive systems, clears the mind, reduces bloating, increases your concentration, improves mood, immune system, reduces premature aging and dis-ease.

Your detox plan can include: fruit, veg, fruit juice, homemade smoothies, beans, lentils, tofu, quorn, oats, potatoes, brown rice, rice noodles, rye crackers, rice cakes, oat cakes, fresh fish, unsalted nuts, unsalted seeds, plain popcorn, live natural yogurt, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, ginger, fresh herbs, ground black pepper, honey and water (at least 2 liters per day!), herbal or fruit teas. Start your day with a hot water and lemon juice drink to cleanse your digestive tract. Juicing fresh fruit and vegetables, smoothies and raw foods are great for detox diets.

Foods to avoid during your detox: red meat, chicken, turkey, any meat products, sausages, burgers, pate, milk, cheese, eggs, cream, butter, margarine, any food that contains wheat e.g. pasta, bread, crisps, savory snacks, salted nuts, chocolate, sweets, jam, sugar, processed foods, ready meals, ready-made sauces, takeaways, alcohol, coffee, tea, sauces, pickles, shop bought salad dressing, mayonnaise, salt, carbonated drinks and squashes, including diet drinks.

Consult your doctor to confirm that a detox would be beneficial to improve your health; detox diets do not cure disease they do however improve your health and body systems to run more effectively.

The detox plan can be followed for as long as you feel appropriate, however it would be advisable to set a length of time, start and end date before starting and stick to your plan. Start small and increase the detox plan as you feel fit. Get enough hydration by drinking filtered water, hot ginger tea, lemon water, herbal detox teas, fresh vegetable juices, or wheat-grass.
Help yourself stay focused, motivated, and calm during the detox plan. Breathe with your diaphragm, meditate and exercise as you normally would during this time. You will notice healthy weight loss, increased focus, motivation, energy, great sleep and improved sex life. Combine the detox plan with deep relaxation hypnosis to improve your mind body connection.

An Introduction to Hypnotherapy

By Warren Thackeray

Warren Thackeray has been helping people in the United Kingdom and South Africa utilising Hypnosis and NLP. Having studied under world record holder Freddy Jacquin and top therapist entertainer Anthony Jacquin in the U.K, he set up a practise in the prestigious hypnotherapy centre of London Harley Street before finally returning to South Africa to setup a Hypnotherapy training school;

That’s right as you sit there and look at the computer screen reading these words, you may notice a feeling compelling you to read even further, which is OK because interesting people are usually quite inquisitive.

Of all the definitions in the dictionary, very seldom is one slightly off but in the case of hypnosis, it is wrong. Hypnosis is associated with sleep but not in the way you would think. The father of modern hypnotherapy, Milton Erickson, described hypnosis as: A special state of awareness, characterized by receptiveness to ideas. Nowhere is the word sleep mentioned. Everyone knows what is implied by the word sleep, which is why it is a popular term for hypnotists.

I have always wanted to help people, but never really got round to becoming a doctor. Stitching people up really isn’t my thing either. A book had come out called Reality is Plastic: The art of impromptu hypnosis by Anthony Jacquin. I ordered the book and waited patiently.
Between ordering and the book’s arrival I was privileged to meet Anthony. Besides writing, he told me he was a full time hypnotherapist. Delving deeper, it became apparent that being a hypnotherapist had its advantages: helping people, working for yourself & your time being your own. It just so happened that Anthony runs the U.K. Hypnotherapy Training College with his father Freddy Jacquin. I took a deep breath and decided that it was something I would like to do too. I don’t recall being zapped into making the decision but I decided quite quickly that it was something I would be doing.

Within no time at all I found myself on a beautiful farm in Robertsbridge in the English countryside. Just after I arrived and was introduced to my fellow students, Anthony asked me if I had read his book. I told him that I had begun and as soon as the words left my mouth I was instructed to hypnotise the others. I was completely taken aback but I went for it anyway. The training is quite intense and only after successful completion of three case studies are you awarded a diploma in hypnotherapy.

Word of warning: you get hypnotised a lot! The training involved hypnosis theory and history. We focused on smoking cessation, fast phobia cures and other NLP techniques. The founders of NLP, Richard Bandler & John Grinder studied characteristics of the most effective
therapists of their time and set out tangible methods for achieving their success.

The methods taught are effective for smoking cessation as they are based on tried and tested techniques. Freddy Jacquin holds the world record for getting the most people to stop smoking in one session.

Please be discerning when choosing a hypnotist to help you. I have heard some shocking stories of hypnotists making outlandish claims for the reasons people smoke. One of these was that my friend had an umbilical cord around her neck in the womb! Aversion therapy seems mostly ineffective in getting people to stop smoking.

Hypnosis has an extremely high success rate for fast effective therapy. Hypnotherapy enjoys the highest rate of helping people stop smoking in the long term. • 94% of 1000 people stopped smoking with hypnotherapy for 18 months or more. Von Dedenroth, T (1968) American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis • 24% Acupuncture 20% Nicotine patches + seeing a counsellor • 10% Nicotine gum • 6% Will power alone

I don’t have a psychology degree but I have helped a lot of people stop smoking, lose weight and overcome their phobias.

At my very first paying client in London I was greeted by my client, her friend and her daughter. They wanted to make sure I was decent. The daughter asked me:“Can you make people thin?” Yes. “Can you make people stop their habits?” Yes. She innocently looked at me and said: “So you can make the perfect person?” I smiled. And to answer her question now, let me just say that I don’t mind dating smokers anymore.

Another time, one of my clients arrived with his wife. She was scared I was going to hypnotise him and just take all his money. You know who you are!

I worked in London’s prestigious Harley Street running my own practice, Powerful Change Hypnotherapy. At the end of last year I moved back to Cape Town. Not being able to leave hypnosis behind, I still help people to overcome their phobias and fears, stop smoking and lose weight.

The South African public are familiar with stage hypnotists and need to see that there is a therapeutic side. I also teach the basics of hypnosis which allows me to explore the entertainment side as well.

I am usually asked some very strange questions: Can you make me stop eating chocolate? Can you make people do anything you want? Can you use your techniques on women?

Truth be told: “Well, uh, yes.”

Now, look into my eyes you are feeling very sleepy…

“Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking”, as reported by the New Scientist article of 1992

The above table based on information in the book Stop Smoking in One Hour, by Valerie Austin : published by John Blake Publishing,
and the New Scientist article of 31st October 1992

Please note that on this page the scientific research evidence for the success of hypnosis has been published in a recognised scientific journal (with the full reference given) and therefore has validity as scientific research within the scientific community. Unfortunately, a number of research figures on other sites fail to declare that their claims do not meet this criteria and it is suggested that you treat their figures and claims accordingly.

Schmidt, F.L. & Viswesvaran, C. (1992). A Meta-Analytic Comparison of the Effectiveness of Smoking-Cessation. Journal of Applied Psychology, 77 (4), 554-561.

The Journal of Applied Psychology is published by the American Psychological Association, America’s main professional association of psychologists.

Cognitive reactions to smoking relapse by Elliot Wald, Tami J Eggelston PhD & Frederick Gibbson Ph. Article from New Scientist vol 136 issue 1845-31 October 92, page 6

Summary: Hypnosis has the highest success rate of the top 15 methods of quitting smoking. The 15 methods were compared in an exhaustive meta-analysis of 633 scientific studies of smoking-cessation programs. This was the largest study of its kind ever undertaken and involved 71,806 smokers.

Smokers are coming under increasing pressure to quit. Earlier this month the Institute of Actuaries published the results of a study it commissioned which showed that the mortality rate for smokers is twice as high as for non-smokers, and that, on average, a smoker dies 6 years earlier than a non-smoker. Surveys suggest that three in four smokers would like to give up, according to the anti-smoking campaign Action on Smoking and Health (ASH).

To find the most effective way to give up smoking, Frank Schmidt and research student Chockalingam Viswesvaran of the University of Iowa carried out a meta-analysis, statistically combining the results of more than 600 studies covering almost 72,000 people from America, Scandinavia and elsewhere in Europe.

By combining the results from so many separate studies, the meta-analysis enables the real effectiveness of each technique to be picked out from the statistical “noise” that often blights studies involving smaller numbers of subjects.

For most smokers the most effective technique was hypnosis, in which smokers go into a state of deep relaxation and listen to suggestive tapes. The analysis of treatment by hypnosis, which included 48 studies covering over 6000 smokers, gave the highest average success rate for this method. Ten percent of the hypnosis programs had success rates greater than 60%.

Sheer willpower had a success rate of only 6 per cent. Self-help, in the form of books achieved modest success – around 9 per cent, while nicotine gum was a little better at 10 per cent.

David Pollock, director of ASH, said he was surprised by the success of hypnosis, which anecdotal evidence had suggested was not very effective. One organization not surprised by the results is the British Society of Medical & Dental Hypnosis. Christopher Pattinson, the society’s academic chairman, said that current hypnosis techniques are a far cry from their popular image of music-hall tricks involving swinging fob watches. The latest relaxation techniques achieve success rates of up to 60 per cent from a single session, he said.

Richard Doll, the epidemiologist who carried out the pioneering studies of the risk of smoking, said that the apparent success of hypnosis and the high quitting rate of patients with heart disease backed his own observations. He added, however, that he was somewhat surprised by the low success rate of those who resorted to willpower alone.

Wide ranges of variability were found in the success rates for all methods of quitting smoking. So regardless of what method of quitting smoking one chooses, the specific program needs to be selected very carefully.

Anchors Eliminate Bad Habits
By Aladdin Elston

Anchors Eliminate Bad Habits, based on Richard Bandlers fast phobia
cure, follow these simple steps. Start by reading through the entire
article first then by performing Step One & Step Two until the desired
result is achieved

It is recommend that you perform a trial run on something of lower
importance, this will ensure the desired run is focused and positive.
Calibrate and adjust to either you or your clients needs as required

Identifying the Bad Habits, for this example I have chosen fast / junk
foods. You may have cravings, nail biting, smoking or phobias that you
would prefer to work on

Preparation

Bring to mind, write down an example of, think of, imagine and list
examples of Bad Habits you want to clear. While performing this step you’ll notice your senses rise to a peak and you’ll become more aware of your thoughts and feelings toward the Bad Habits, this facilitates a quick sense association and more affective anchor

Step One

Create an anchor (association) by pressing your thumb and small finger
together while you bring to mind, read over your examples, think of,
imagine or look over the Bad Habit while repeatedly pressing your thumb and small finger together to secure the anchor / association. e.g. Imagine walking into a Fast Food restaurant and purchasing a meal from your old choice and eating the meal

There are several alternative positions for anchors, I would recommend
choosing an action that is easily performed or used in public, knuckles,
fingers, clenching a fist, squeezing an earlobe etc. are all easy
examples. Contact me for direction if required.

Step Two

Repeat Step one while creating a negative anchor (association) to the
Bad Habits, in this example we use something that would normally repel
or be quite repulsive. Paul McKenna uses a negative anchor example of
eating a plate of human hair. Interviews with your client prior to this
will assist with determining an appropriate negative anchor,
alternatively calibrate and integrate this during the session

This can be quite effective and repulsive enough and where necessary
tailor the anchor to your needs. Associate the repulsive anchor with the
Bad Habit by repeatedly applying the Step One anchor position e.g. by
pressing your thumb and small finger together.

Test the Anchor

Now that you have created an anchor the next step is to test the anchor. If the anchor is not effective, repeat Steps One & Two until you find that you are repulsed by the Bad Habit you now know the anchor is successful.
